Late Cypriot Australian Georgia Alexandrou was honoured in an award ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, Cyprus.

The ceremony was part of the World Conference of Cyprus Diaspora.

Alexandrou was a pioneering leader in the Cypriot Australian community who passed away in April after a battle with cancer.

She served as the first female president of the Cyprus Community of Canberra and ACT (CCACT) from 2000 to 2023 and was elected president of the Pan Australian Justice for Cyprus Coordinating Committee – Paseka in 2021.

The posthumous award was presented by President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides and was received by her husband, Christos Alexandrou.

The Australian High Commissioner to Cyprus Fiona McKergow was also in attendance.

Alexandrou contributed to strengthening ties with Cyprus and was dedicated to community service.
