Melbourne Victory have signed Greek forward Nikos Vergos for the 2024/25 A-League season.

Signing on from Greek Super League side Atromitos, Vergos has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

Vergos got his start at Olympiakos, representing his country through all age groups at youth international level before heading to Spain to play with Elche and Real Madrid’s Academy side.

The 28-year-old returned to Greece for a season with Panathinaikos and a loan spell back in Spain with Hercules before joining Panetolikos.

It is at the Canaries he has spent the most of his career thus far, and his form at the club saw him earn a move to Austria with Wolfsberger AC before joining Atromitos last season.

The forward said he’s excited to get started at his new club in Australia.

“I’m looking forward to coming to Australia and joining Melbourne Victory,” Vergos said in a club announcement.

“In what I have seen, Melbourne Victory is a Club that wants to be competing for trophies every season and that’s something that drives me as a footballer.

“This is an exciting challenge for me that I’m looking forward to and I can’t wait to meet the fans and deliver for them on the pitch at AAMI Park this season.”

Melbourne Victory Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo said he’s keen to see Vergos as one of the Dark Blues.

“We’re pleased to have Nikos on board for the next two seasons,” he said.

“Nikos is a striker who has a sharp eye for goal and we’re looking forward to seeing how he will complement our forward third.

“He has played for some of the biggest clubs in Greece and has spent time at the Real Madrid Academy and we believe he has the technical ability and the right character profile to succeed at Melbourne Victory.”

The Greek is one of seven new additions to the club for season 2024/25.
