The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) has opened nominations for the 23rd Annual Multicultural Awards for Excellence (MAE). The event recognises outstanding contributions to multiculturalism across the state.

The awards celebrate individuals and organisations that have fostered cross-cultural understanding and supported those from migrant, refugee, and asylum seeker backgrounds in fully participating in Victorian life.

This year, the MAE offer 14 categories, reflecting the evolving landscape of multicultural achievements in Victoria. Among the highlights is the Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll, now in its third year, which spotlights local champions of diversity. This honour roll pays tribute to individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to keeping Victoria’s communities safe, connected, and inclusive.

The Honour Roll was introduced to replace the Meritorious Service to the Community category, aligning with the VMC’s legislative objectives under the Multicultural Victoria Act 2011. It serves as a dedicated platform to recognize those who have significantly promoted multicultural civic participation and showcased the social, cultural, and economic benefits of diversity.
