Members of the Holy Trinity Footscray Philoptochos stood alongside President of the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria Bill Papastergiadis OAM this week to present their donation cheque for the 2024 Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
A total of $7500 was donated by the two community organisations to the charity, with the Philoptochos managing to raise $5500, to which $1500 was added by the GCM and $500 as an individual contribution by the GCM President.
“This amount is an effort to help the children, not only of our community, but the wider society,” Papastergiadis said, congratulating the ladies of the Philoptochos for their efforts.
The event took place on Thursday 29 August at the Holy Trinity Church with the cheque officially presented to spokesperson for the Royal Children’s Hospital – Good Friday Appeal, Claire O’Riordan.
“It is a great pleasure and honour to be joined by you today and this generous donation, it will make a huge difference to this effort to bring relief to children in need of care,” she said.
“[…] It makes such a big difference to us. We love coming out into the community and seeing the fundraisers that work so hard. So, it’s a privilege for us.”
Addressing O’Riordan, Papastergiadis added:
“Ms Claire, thank you for being here, at Agia Triada Footscray with Fathers Antoni, Father Nicholas and the Philoptochos, who have made a very generous effort in providing and presenting a check to you for $7500, for this very important appeal.”
Since 1931, The Good Friday Appeal charity organises fundraisings in support of Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital work in research, purchase of equipment and technology, funding patient and family centred care programs and developing staff education programs, scholarships and fellowships.
The annual appeal, culminating in a telethon on Good Friday, produced a record-breaking donation tally for 2024, with $23,368,724 raised for the Royal Children’s Hospital by individuals and organisations in metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria.
