State League 1 – North West Group
All three Greek Australian clubs in the north-west group ended the season with a defeat. Western Suburbs ended the season with a 2-1 away defeat at Sydenham Park. The end of the season found them in 8th place in the standings.
The grand finale for Yarraville this season was less than impressive. Doxa, the usual powerhouse, was defeated 8-5 by Corio, resulting in them settling for 9th place in the standings. Looks like they’ll need some more luck next season.
Clifton Hill may have lost the game, but they’ve definitely won the award for being the biggest loser of the season! After getting dominated 4-0 by Strathmore, they’ve landed themselves in second-to-last place and are bound for relegation to the State League 2.
State League 1 – Southeast Group
And with a final clash between two Greek Australian powerhouse clubs, the Southeast group of State League 1 drew its curtains. Malvern City and Aris of South Springvale put on a show, with the “yellow and black” emerging victorious with a 2-0 score. As the dust settles, Malvern City takes 5th place while Aris misses out on promotion by only two points. Looks like Aris is on the rise, ready to conquer new heights in the next season. Here’s to hoping luck is on their side.
State League 2 – North West Group
The mighty Westvale Olympic has done the impossible! The Greek-Australian champs took second place and snagged a golden ticket to State League 1. Unfortunately, their last match of the year ended in a loss of 2-4 against Craigieburn City. Looks like even the best Olympians have their off days!
Altona East Phoenix emerged victorious in the “Greek” showdown against Mill Park, securing a 1-0 with with PAOK claiming 5th place and Mill Park trailing in 6th.
State League 2 – Southeast Group
The mighty Bayside Argonauts cruised to victory, defeating Berwick City in a thrilling 2-4 away game. The “Argonauts” truly lived up to their name this season, dominating the competition and securing a promotion to State League 1. Plus, let’s not forget the impressive 23 goals scored by goal-master Mitch Cooper. Talk about sailing to the top.
Chisholm United gave their fans an unpredictable rollercoaster ride, finishing their season with a nail-biting 2-3 loss to Doncaster Rovers. But hey, at least they still managed to snag 6th place in the standings.
The latest performance from Bentleigh United Cobras was a bit of a downer. The “black and yellow” gang got outplayed and served a 4-3 defeat by Skye United. Talk about ending the season on a low note, the “Combras” slithered their way to 8th place in the standings.
State League 4 – Eastern Group
The Waverley Wanderers showed off their killer moves on the field and then partied like rockstars at the Yarra Jets’ crib after crushing their opponents 6-2. Talk about securing a spot in the playoffs like a boss! Catch the “yellow and black” squad facing off against Endeavor United on Saturday 14/9 at 5pm at the IYU Recreation Reserve in Pakenham. You won’t want to miss their fierce determination to conquer the match.
State League 4 – Northern Group
Darebin United ended their season with a 4-2 defeat against Glenroy Lions. Apollon had a relatively good season, finishing in 5th place in the standings.
West Preston ended their season with a 5–3 win over Greenvale United, who finished at the bottom of the standings. The “Greens” collected 32 points and placed 6th in the standings.
State League 5 – Eastern Group
Olympiacos from East Kew kicked their way to success with a sweet 3-3 draw against East Bentleigh. Looks like the “red and whites” have officially joined the State League 4 party, taking second place right behind Mount Waverley. Let the celebration commence!
State League 5 – Northern Group
Not only did Keon Park pop the champagne for their State League 4 upgrade, but A.E.K also clinched 2nd place in the standings by settling for a 1-1 draw against 3rd place Meadow Park. And let’s not forget their lethal striker, Grozdanoski, who made it rain with 26 goals and stole the league’s golden boot. Talk about a top-notch team!
