Poet, writer, and performer Koraly Dimitriadis is set to release her latest work, The Mother Must Die, a powerful short story collection to be published by Puncher and Wattmann.
The book, will be available in bookstores worldwide from October 1, offers a raw and compelling look at themes of motherhood, identity, and rebellion, further cementing Dimitriadis’ reputation as an unflinching voice in Australian literature.
The Melbourne launch, scheduled for October 6, will be hosted by the Greek Community of Melbourne and will feature an intimate in-conversation event with acclaimed author Christos Tsiolkas. The event is expected to draw a strong crowd, with Dimitriadis’ Greek Australian heritage and Tsiolkas’ literary prominence setting the stage for a dynamic discussion.

For readers in Sydney, Dimitriadis will appear on October 20 at the University of Sydney’s Chau Chak Museum, beside the Cypriot antiquities collection. The Sydney event will include an in-conversation with poet and academic Michele Seminara, offering another opportunity for literary enthusiasts to delve into Dimitriadis’ work and her perspectives on contemporary writing.
Dimitriadis has long been a trailblazer in the Australian literary scene, often opting to self-publish her work. In a pointed critique of the traditional publishing industry, she expressed frustration with its elitist tendencies: “It’s been a real challenge to get my work published because of the elitist nature of the industry where you get punished or excluded if you don’t follow the grain.”
Her experience with Puncher and Wattmann, however, has been different. “I really enjoyed working with Puncher and Wattmann.
They stayed true to my voice and didn’t censor me at all. They are really carving a name for themselves for publishing unconventional writing. I’m very excited,” she said.
With The Mother Must Die, Dimitriadis continues to push boundaries, offering readers a provocative and fearless exploration of the human condition.
