The Greek Film Festival of Sydney will host a screening of the documentary “Ange & the Boss: Puskas in Australia”, which unpacks football legend Ferenc Puskás’ time with South Melbourne Hellas and the strong relationship he formed with the team’s captain, Ange Postecoglou.
The documentary, directed by Cam Fink, Tony Wilson and Rob Heath, will be shown as part of the 29th Greek Film Festival of Sydney at Palace Cinemas Norton Street on Thursday 17 October at 6.30pm.
The film explores the remarkable tale that saw one of the greatest footballers of all time become the coach of South Melbourne (1989-1992), winning the 1990/91 NSL and helping develop Ange Postecoglou before he became the most successful managerial export from Australia.

Puskás stands as one of the great icons of football, scoring over 700 goals in a career that saw him spearhead the attack for both Hungary and Real Madrid and win countless titles.
The Hungarian superstar also became an established name in Hellenic football as a coach of Panathinaikos and AEK, winning multiple trophies with the “Trifylli” and leading them to the final of the European Cup (now known as the Champions League) in 1971.

The documentary will detail the unbelievable period in time when South Melbourne somehow had Puskás as its coach, with it exploring the relationship he cultivated with Postecoglou (the captain of “Hellas” at the time).
It also delves into other subjects like immigration, multiculturalism, and its relevance to Australia’s NSL, which served as a major institution for sports fans of European background-Australians.
The film further illustrates the life of Greek migrants in Melbourne in the 80s and 90s (something that resonates deeply with all Greek migrants in Australia).
It touches on the struggles they faced, as well as how their cultural and sporting institutions helped them to make a contribution to multiculturalism, their communities and Australian society.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with directors Cam Fink, Tony Wilson and South Team of the Century legend Paul Trimboli.
The trio will be interviewed by Sydney-based football commentator Simon Hill and Themi Kallos, the Executive Producer of the SBS Greek Language Program.
The film also features in Melbourne’s program and will be screened on 20 October, 4.30pm, at the Astor Theatre.
