The Greek Community of NSW held a meeting on Friday with Greece’s deputy minister of culture, Iason Fotilas, at the Greek consulate in Sydney. The meeting aimed to strengthen cultural ties and discuss future projects between the community and Greece.
It is seen as a positive step towards further collaborations to ensure that cultural heritage and community support services remain strong in the years ahead.
Representing the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW were President Harry Danalis, Secretary Michael Tsilimos, and Vice President Nia Karteris.
The meeting was also attended by Greece’s ambassador to Australia, Stavros Venizelos, and the consul general of Greece in Sydney, Ioannis Mallikourtis.
Discussions cantered on the rich history of the Greek Orthodox Community and its wide range of services, including Greek language schools, aged care facilities, churches, welfare services, and the popular Greek Festival. Future funding initiatives, particularly those related to cultural projects, were key topics of conversation.
The upcoming 29th Greek Film Festival, a longstanding cultural event, was also highlighted as a significant area of growth for the community with organisers looking forward to celebrating the event’s continued success and cultural impact.
