The refs of the Victoria championships breathed a sigh of relief as their demanding season came to an end. They gathered at a posh hotel in Melbourne to let loose and honour the winners, including our very own Yiannis Zisi.

It was a much-needed break from the football frenzy, hosted by Georgia Rajic and graced by the presence of Football Victoria’s CEO, Chris Pehlivanis.

Cheers to conquering stress and pressure to make it through the year!

Looks like Zisis is really winning over his colleagues, as he’s been crowned the best referee for the second year in a row! We just had to get a quote from the reigning champ himself.

“To be recognised and voted for by your colleagues as the best is very special. It is something very touching and honourable for me that at the same time fills me with joy and responsibilities for the future in a very competitive and attractive league that I participate in (NPLM). I want to say a big thank you to the entire football family in the state. Football players Coaches fans journalists but especially my fellow referees who helped me win this award for the second year in a row. We must all continue to work hard and as a team for an even better football in Victoria. Finally, I want to thank my family for their support and encouragement during the good and difficult times of the year.”

From the pool of award recipients, we cherry-picked some standout individuals. Maria Patriki reigned supreme as the Futsal referee extraordinaire.

Daniel Papadakis took home the coveted “Local Hero” accolade for his unwavering support and infectious enthusiasm within the refereeing community.

The ultimate prize, “Best Male Referee of the Year,” was claimed by the seasoned pro, Mike Mammis, who handled some nerve-wracking games with ease.

And last but certainly not least, Nicoleta Sotiropoulou snagged the award for most exceptional assistant referee. Talk about a winning squad.
