The Greek Women of Northern Suburbs ‘Anemones’ recently celebrated Christmas with a festive lunch attended by over 30 members, with delicious food, Christmas carols, and warm camaraderie.

A highlight of the celebration was the acknowledgment of two retiring committee members, Maro Kalifatidis and Vasiliki Kyvernitakis, for their decades of service.

Kalifatidis, a founding member of the group since its establishment in 2000, has held key leadership roles, serving as both President and Vice President during her 24-year tenure.

Kyvernitakis, who joined the committee as Assistant Treasurer in 2011, was also commended for her dedication.

The President, Nola Radiotis, expressed heartfelt gratitude to both women, presenting them with commemorative trophies and gifts as tokens of appreciation. In emotional farewell speeches, both Maro and Vasiliki thanked the group for their support and friendship, pledging to remain active members while stepping aside to allow younger members to take on committee roles.

The group announced that Fotini Michalopoulos and Helen Hantzis will join the committee, beginning their duties in the new year.

Additionally, long-standing member Katerina Balassi was recognised for her unwavering commitment to the group since its inception.

Radiotis also thanked dance instructor Vasilis Tsalkos for his contributions throughout the year, congratulating him on his recent election as a councilor for the City of Darebin.

The group’s members were praised for their efforts to perform Greek dances and spend time with residents in aged care facilities, showcasing their dedication to community service.

Anemones concluded the year with a smaller gathering on Monday, December 9.

Finally, Radiotis extended her gratitude to all members for their support and contributions, especially the committee for their hard work. She wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a healthy, safe, and prosperous New Year.

Dance classes will resume on Monday, February 3, 2025.
