An injury time goal has helped AEK salvage a point against Levadiakos, ending their 2024 on a timid note as they concede important ground in the title race.
Enosi drew 1-1 with the “blue-greens” at “Agia Sophia” Stadium on Monday morning in the Greek Super League’s 16th round, a poor result made worse by the fact their title rivals all managed to win and create distance from them.
Levadiakos stunned the hosts by seizing the lead in the 57th minute when striker Fabricio Pedrozo converted a penalty kick into the bottom left.
AEK looked set to suffer a damaging defeat when centre half Gerasimos Mitoglou stepped up and struck the ball into the back of the net in the dying minutes of the game (90+4′).
The goal was enough to avoid total embarrassment, though Enosi will no doubt view the result as a failure as they now slip into fourth place (three points behind first).
Panathinaikos overcame a resilient Kallithea outfit, beating them 1-0 at the Olympic Stadium to seal a strong finish to the year.
The match was turned on its head in the 33rd minute when Kallithea forward Thierry Rua Moutinho received his second booking, putting his team down to ten players with roughly an hour left of play.
The visitors held strong despite the disadvantage, frustrating the Greens tremendously in their pursuit of a goal.
The “Trifylli” eventually broke through in the 82nd minute after winger Daniel Mancini delivered a perfectly weighted cross for striker Alexander Jeremejeff to head in from close range.
PAOK scored a strong 3-0 success over Atromitos to remain one point behind Olympiacos.
The Peristeriotes were put on the back foot early into the clash after defender Nikolaos Athanasiou was given a straight red 22 minutes in.
The Thessaloniki side capitalised on the extra player advantage right before the break via a goal from striker Fyodor Chalov (45+2′), with them doubling it early into the second half through winger Andrija Zivkovic’s long shot (49′).
Atromitos captain Amr Warda had a chance to halve the deficit from the penalty spot, but his effort was saved by goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski (59′).
PAOK midfielder Mady Camara scored a late headed goal (90+1′), wrapping up the three points and giving his club a winning finish to the year.
Panserraikos and Panetolikos were forced to settle for a point after playing out a goalless draw in Serres.
Olympiacos secured their place as league leaders to close out 2024 after defeating Lamia 1-0 at “Georgios Karaiskakis” Stadium on Sunday morning.
The Piraeus giants found the match’s lone goal in the 65th minute via winger Gelson Martins, putting them on 34 points heading into the holiday break.
The final two fixtures of the round will take place Tuesday morning between Asteras Tripolis-Aris and OFI-Volos.
