Players of the Greek national women’s water polo team were cheered on by a full house at the municipal swimming pool in Alexandroupoli, northern Greece on Saturday, as they celebrated their 12-8 victory over Australia.

The ‘dream team’ of new head coach Haris Pavlidis gained advantage on the second quarter of the game, with Bec Rippon’s Australia team trailing 7-4 and unable to turn the game around.

Greece stormed through the third and fourth quarters with 10-6 and 12-8 securing the win.

In the last match for the qualifiers on Sunday 19/1 (19.00 EET), Greece will meet Spain, another traditional powerhouse of women’s water polo who won gold at the Paris Olympics.
