Global reactions to Trump’s return
Russian President Vladimir Putin offered his congratulations ahead of the inauguration, signaling a willingness to engage in dialogue with the new administration on key matters such as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and nuclear arms control. Speaking during a televised meeting of Russia’s security council, Putin emphasised his goal of achieving lasting peace in Ukraine.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also joined in welcoming Trump, reaffirming the European Union’s readiness to strengthen transatlantic ties.
In Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan linked Trump’s presidency to hopes of resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“Since Mr. Trump repeatedly said he would end the Russia-Ukraine war, we as Turkey will do whatever necessary in this regard,” Erdogan stated, adding that the issue would be a priority in upcoming discussions with the U.S.
