The Greek Language and Culture School of the Greek Orthodox Community of Box Hill and Districts successfully completed another academic year, marking significant progress and achievements for its students. The unwavering support and trust of families who choose the school for learning the Greek language and connecting with their cultural heritage remain key factors in maintaining its vitality.

As the President of the Community, Nikolaos Farlekas, noted:

“Despite the general decline in enrolments at Greek schools, ours continues to attract families who recognize the importance of preserving our language and culture. This fills us with joy and pride as we see our community remain active and committed to its roots.”

The school’s curriculum offers free Greek language classes for all ages, from kindergarten to VCE. Beyond language education, students have the opportunity to learn Greek history, traditional dances, and engage in activities that keep cultural heritage alive. Emphasis is also placed on teaching customs, traditions, and values, allowing children to experience the essence of Greek culture in various settings.

Classes for 2025 will commence on Friday, February 14, running from 5pm to 8pm. Due to high demand, enrolments will close once the available spots in each class are filled.

For younger children aged six months to four years, the “Asterakia” program offers a play-based introduction to Greek. Every Friday morning from 9.30am to 10.45am, children participate in fun activities that help them learn Greek while building a strong foundation for future learning.

The President expressed gratitude to all those involved, stating:

“We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents, students, and our community for your support and trust. Thanks to you, we are keeping our language and culture alive for future generations. Together, we continue this wonderful journey.”
