Heidelberg United has put the teams on notice in the Greek Community Women’s Cup after decimating South Springvale in the opening rounds.
The tournament, organised by the Greek Community of Melbourne in association with Australian Football Skool and hosted by Northcote City FC, has gotten off to a lively start with “Alexandros” one of a handful of sides to secure an important win.
Heidelberg destroyed South Springvale 5-0 in a commanding performance wherein they dictated the pace and launched precise attacks that left their opponents on the back foot.
The Bergers will be extra pleased at having kept the clean sheet, ensuring an all-round strong result that cements them as an early favourite in the tournament.
The Bergers’ win would oddly enough seem tame compared to some of the other results from the opening clashes.
East Kew consolidated their victory over Oakleigh with a 1-0 success against Malvern City, pushing their case further forward as a tournament favourite.
The most remarkable result of the opening rounds came from Box Hill United as they earned an unbelievable 19-0 win over Northcote City, with their attack clearly proving far too much for the tournament hosts to handle.
Malvern City and Keon Park played out a 0-0 draw in a shock result, compared to the scorelines from the other contests, with both teams fighting hard and creating chances without breaking through.
The opening rounds indicate that a lot of excitement awaits in the coming games as we look to see who will reign supreme by the tournament end.
