Greek born Dimitris Mitch Moras lost the battle with leukaemia on Fiday 17 July, after a year of treatment in Australia and Greece.

The 34 year old arrived in Melbourne in March 2014, to visit his family and friends. Two weeks after his arrival, Mitch was brought down with fatigue and was feeling unwell. He was taken to Alfred Hospital, where he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Mitch completed chemotherapy cycles and received a bone marrow transplant by his brother Vangelis Moras, a Greek international soccer player. Vangelis had to travel to Australia, as the health risk for his sick brother to return to Greece was too high.

In June 2014, the members of the Greek community launched the ‘Save Moras campaign’ raising money to pay for his chemotherapy and hospital stay.

However, after Mitch competed his rounds of treatment in Australia, he returned to Larissa, Greece where he succumbed to his illness after a 15 month-long battle.
