Archbishop Makarios of Australia led the Blessing Ceremony on Monday, February 24, marking the start of the new activity year for the NSW GO Youth Fellowships of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia. The event, held at the Parish of the Resurrection of Christ in Kogarah, Sydney, was attended by 300 young people, along with Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis and Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia.
Addressing the gathering, Archbishop Makarios urged youth to remain spiritually anchored in Christ, warning against worldly distractions. “In Him, we find true meaning and purpose,” he stressed, highlighting the Church’s role in providing guidance and spiritual nourishment.
He also underlined the importance of heritage, reminding attendees that they are heirs to a sacred legacy.
“In our veins flows the blood of heroes and saints. Our ancestors endured hardships so we could receive the true faith,” he said, encouraging them to honor their roots by living as devoted Orthodox Christians.
The Archbishop concluded by emphasising the power of unity and community.
“As Orthodox Christians, we do not journey alone,” he said.
“We are called to walk together, support each other, and strengthen one another in love.”
He described youth fellowships as more than social networks, calling them sacred bonds that help young people stay close to Christ.
