Stephen Pallarass, a former South Australian Director of Public Prosecutions, has put his name back in contention for a seat in the state’s Upper House at the next election.

Pallaras will run as an independent in next year’s state election in March as he looks to earn a parliamentary seat.

It will be the second time he has run as a candidate after contesting unsuccessfully in the 2022 state election, with him stating he is coming back better prepared and more determined create positive change.

Pallaras expressed that his over 40 years of experience in practice and teaching criminal law, as well as being a King’s Counsel for the past 25 years, have prepared him immensely to serve in a political capacity.

“I believe I have a breadth of legal knowledge and firsthand experience that I can use to drive real changes in areas that I am passionate about, including domestic violence,” Pallaras said in a media release on the announcement.

He elaborated on his desire to instigate change in policy to improve laws relating to domestic violence to better protect vulnerable women and their families.

“I know as a parliament and a State we can – and must – do better and I am determined to try and win my seat in Parliament to allow me to deliver real change,” Pallaras said.

The former SA DPP has been running numerous ‘True Crime Adelaide’ events across South Australia telling tales of cases he has worked on, and it was at one of these events this past Wednesday that he publicly announced he will run again for election.

“It’s been humbling to see so many people interested in hearing the inside stories of cases that I’ve been involved with, and my insights into our legal system, and their feedback tells me that they also believe our courts and parole board can do better and change is needed,” he said.

“So now, I’m putting my hand up to be part of that change and I hope people will support me to get the job done.”
