The turbulent weather continues in Greece as it prepares to go through a very cold front through to Wednesday that is uncharacteristic with the spring season, with snow, sharp temperature drops and widespread frost all expected as per ERT‘s report.
Right after the severe storms and floods, the country will now go through another set of unexpected weather conditions as the cold front, which began in northern Greece and reduced temperatures to as low as minus 7 degrees Celsius in areas like Seli, heads south.
It is forecast to reach Crete and the Dodecanese by Tuesday with cold temperatures to persist, especially in the mornings and nights, and frost expected in much of the mainland.
“The front will gradually weaken, but cold weather will hold through midweek,” said meteorologist Anastasia Tyraski.
Temperatures are predicted to begin rising by Thursday with the weather returning to seasonal norms by the weekend.
Showers and local snow are forecast Tuesday and Wednesday in central and southern regions, with clearer skies in the north.
Strong winds are expected to persist in the north and reach up to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean.
The reports say that, by early next week, spring-like conditions are expected to return with temperatures well above 20 degrees Celsius.
In Attica, Tuesday and Wednesday will be cloudy with local rain showers, and temperatures will not rise above 12-13 degrees Celsius.
While frost is not anticipated in central Athens, higher parts of Attica may see some overnight freezing.
Like other parts of Greece, temperatures will gradually begin to rise on Thursday and become more spring-like by the weekend.
