Martha Oplopiadis is the first woman to be appointed President-Elect of the Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia (SAE-A) in its nearly 100-year history.

Oplopiadis is at the helm of the Metro Tunnel Project at Metro Trains Melbourne. The senior engineer, is well versed in finance, commercial and project management – skills she’s built over a career with Alstom, General Motors Holden and Ford Motor Company. The executive, has delivered of complex projects for the private and public sector.

As President-Elect, of SAE-A, in a statement to Neos Kosmos she said she wants to to shift the focus from traditional automotive manufacturing to smart and innovative companies across Australia and New Zealand.

Oplopiadis holds a degree in Electronics Engineering and is a Fellow of Engineers Australia – an honour that recognises her leadership and significant contributions to the engineering profession.

She was awarded the Woman of Influence Award at the 2024 HACCI awards.

She serves as a Board Director for the Society of Automotive Engineers – Australasia, where she supports STEM education and helps improve the wellbeing of the Victorian community.
