The hearing of the defamation lawsuit filed by Greek Australian Peter Tziotzis against Channel Nine‘s “A Current Affair” program has begun in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

The case concerns reports that aired on 28 November 2022 and 21 March 2023 about him and his company, Peter Tziotzis “Orthodox Funeral Services”.

The Greek Australian has insisted from the beginning he is innocent of the – according to him – unfounded accusation of stealing jewellery and clothes that were intended to be buried with the body of a Greek woman, a case for which he was also accused through the show.

Last year, in a statement to Neos Kosmos, he confirmed that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute him and that the case would not proceed further.

“The Police’s confirmation says what I’ve been saying from the very beginning. That I am innocent,” Tziotzis said.

Subsequently, Tziotzis and his company filed a defamation lawsuit against Channel Nine, the show’s producer, and the journalist who covered the report.

The case is currently being tried.
