The weekend just gone served up a feast of goals and excitement, and once again, the spotlight shines on the ‘blue-and-white’ derbies between our community’s proud teams in Victoria’s State Leagues.

State League 1 – North-West Group

The ‘Greek’ derbies in the northwest group of State League 1 are heating up. Historic Yarraville (Doxa) could only manage a 1-1 draw against Upfield in a gritty battle defined by strength and relentless duels. The result left a bitter taste for players and fans alike. This week, Yarraville welcomes Panellinios for a classic ‘Greek’ showdown steeped in history.

Western Suburbs, also coming off a 1-1 stalemate with Keilor Park, head into their clash with Yarraville in a similar mindset. Meanwhile, it was a tough round for Westvale Olympic and Clifton Hill, with the former falling 0-2 at home to Banyule City and the latter losing 1-3 to Ballarat City. This week, these two Greek-Australian sides face off in another ‘Greek’ derby, reviving memories of their rich legacies.

State League 1 – South-East Group

South Springvale’s Aris blew Brandon Park away with a commanding 5-1 victory, while Malvern emerged victorious in their ‘Greek’ duel against newcomers Bayside Argonauts, winning 3-1. This week, Aris hosts Gippsland United, Malvern takes on Collingwood City, and the Argonauts face a wounded Brandon Park at home, still reeling from their thrashing by Aris.

State League 2 – North-West Group

The Greek Australian teams in State League 2’s northwest group enjoyed a stellar weekend. Altona East’s PAOK stormed through Dallas FC with a 3-0 win, while Mill Park matched that scoreline against Strathmore. This round, the ‘double-headed eagle’ hosts Whittlesea Ranges, and the ‘doves’ of Mill Park take on Lalor United at home.

State League 2 – South-East Group

Chisholm United from Oakleigh bounced back in style, defeating Skye United 2-0 with flair and filling their supporters with optimism for the tough season ahead. This week, they face Bentleigh United Cobras in yet another ‘Greek’ derby. The Cobras, meanwhile, are licking their wounds after a 1-0 away loss to St Kilda last weekend.

State League 3 – South-East Group

What a match we witnessed last weekend! Waverley Wanderers’ AEK took on Sandringham in a thriller that had it all. Despite falling 3-5, the Greek Australian side delivered a gripping 90 minutes that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. This week, the ‘yellow-and-blacks’ travel to face Middle Park.

State League 4 – East Group

East Kew struck fear into their rivals, cruising to a 4-1 victory away at Docklands Athletic Club and proving they’re in top form. This round, the ‘red-and-whites’ host Albert Park.

State League 4 – North Group

Keon Park’s AEK claimed all three points with a 1-0 win over Watsonia Heights. The ‘double-headed eagle’ will look to keep their momentum going this week when they visit Fawkner. Elsewhere, West Preston and Darebin United both settled for draws—West Preston’s wild 4-4 against Moonee Valley Knights and Darebin’s 0-0 with Heidelberg Stars. This round, the ‘greens’ of West Preston face Thornbury Athletic, while Darebin hosts Watsonia Heights.
