Thousands of Greek Australians gathered in churches across the country to celebrate Orthodox Easter in a display of unity, devotion, and cultural pride that stretched from coast to coast.
Resurrection services were held in every Greek Orthodox church in Australia, with crowds flooding the churches in reverence to hear the joyous proclamation: “Christ is Risen.”
Though many may not attend church regularly, the Resurrection remains a deeply rooted cultural and spiritual moment that unites generations of Greek Australians.
The traditional midnight liturgy drew thousands, who then carried the Holy Light home with flickering candles, illuminating the streets in a powerful visual expression of faith and tradition.

The alignment of Orthodox and Catholic Easter this year expended the festivities, making the celebration even more meaningful and unifying for many.
On Easter Sunday, the celebration continued with traditional feasts.
Greek neighbourhoods, especially in Melbourne and Sydney, are currently getting filled with the aromas of lamb on the spit and other festive delicacies, as families and friends gathered for lively Easter banquets—complete with dancing, laughter, and music.
Photos from the celebrations show candlelit processions, packed churchyards, and family gatherings—a testament to the vitality and resilience of Greek tradition in the diaspora.
