Timon of Athens will return to stage this June for a strictly limited season at the Seymour Centre, in Sydney.
Directed by Greek Australian Margaret Thanos, the production will run, from 12 to 15 June 2025.
The play received critical acclaim when it premiered in December, with Sydney Morning Herald reviewer John Shand calling it “among the best Shakespeares I’ve ever seen.”
He praised Thanos as “a new star in the firmament of the best Shakespeare productions.”

Starring actor Damien Ryan, the play has been adapted by Margaret and Ryan to reflect the economic crisis that struck Greece a decade ago.
Margaret and the producers describe it as “a black comedy dressed up as a Greek tragedy – a hilariously dark, joyfully brutal, and very modern immorality tale.”
“You can watch a Shakespeare play where you don’t know what happens next, have no idea how it ends, and will be surprised at every turn.”
When: 12–15 June 2025, mostly at 7:30pm
Where: Seymour Centre, Sydney
