The Association of Cretans of Northern Territory celebrated the 84th anniversary of the Battle of Crete on Sunday.

Commemorations began with the doxology from Father Joel at St. Nicholas Church in the city of Darwin in the presence of the Chief Minister of Northern Territory Lia finocchiaro and Honorary Consul of Greece Ioannis Anoiktomatis.

Then at the Darwin Cenotaph war memorial, a Trisagion was held by Father Christos Tsoraklidis from St Savvas of Kalymnos Greek Orthodox Parish NT and the wreath laying ceremony.

Those attending also included CLP Khoda Patel, member of Casuarina; Leonie Melder, Community engagement advisor, Michael Koulianos, President and Nick Theo, secretary for Greek Community NT – GOCNA; representing City of Darwin councillor Jimmy Bouhoris; Sylvia Klonaris councillor for Waters Ward City of Darwin; representing Cyprus Community of the NT, Evan Fittirikos and Andreas Ioannou; Jim Simisakakis from Darwin Olympic Sporting Club; Angela Tomazos from Hellenic Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry NT; Bupe Amon Kyelu- Tanzanian Community NT and Vice President of Multicultural Council NT.
