The Greek-Australian Society’s Mentoring Program continues to go from strength to strength with a record 27 mentors confirmed for 2025 as the organisation also introduced an award named after its late Mentor and esteemed member of our community, Emmanuel Alfieris.

At the event, Bill Maloukis, GAS Vice-President and Mentoring Program Convenor, revealed that they had successfully grown for the fifth consecutive year to include a record 27 mentors across Australia and overseas.

Numerous mentors, mentees, supporters and dignitaries attended the event, hosted by James Stevens, GAS Mentor and Mr Roses CEO, with generous support from Alpha Dining.

The evening was emceed by Adriana Mageros, Digital Reporter at Sky News Australia, and featured the following as speakers: Yiannis Mallikourtis, Consul General of Greece in Sydney, GAS mentors Rosa Stathis and Dr Anastasia Hronis, Mark Buttigieg, New South Wales Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism, and GAS President George Mpliokas.

There are eight first-time GAS mentors for this year’s program, among which are Alex Demetriou, Partner at KPMG in Adelaide and Chair of HACCI SA, Arthur Sinodinos, former Federal Liberal Party politician and Australian Ambassador to the United States, currently Partner at The Asia Group in Washington DC, and Bill Kalpouzanis, Chief Operating Officer at Alpha Bank in London.

In his address, Maloukis also announced the creation of the Emmanuel Alfieris Award, a tribute to the late inaugural GAS Mentor, who tragically passed away last July at the age of 53.

The Award will be presented at the conclusion of the GAS Mentoring Program each year to a mentee who has shown initiative, growth, and a genuine commitment to community.

The GAS Mentoring Program is available exclusively to all members, with membership free for all current university students that are members of CUGA NSW societies and NUGAS Victoria.
