Cretans from across Australia gathered in Canberra over the weekend to mark two significant milestones: the 45th Anniversary of the Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand and the 40th Anniversary of the Cretan Association of Canberra and Districts Incorporated.
The celebration, held under the banner “Cretans in Canberra Weekend,” brought together members and representatives from Cretan associations nationwide for a weekend of unity, cultural pride, and reflection on the legacy of the diaspora.
As part of the program, delegates visited the Embassy of Greece in Australia, where they were warmly welcomed by the Ambassador of Greece, Mr Stavros Venizelos. In a public statement, the Embassy shared: “Ambassador Stavros Venizelos had the pleasure of welcoming the President and members of the Cretan Association of Sydney and NSW to the Embassy, as part of the commemorations for the 45th anniversary of the Cretan Federation and the 40th anniversary of the Canberra Association.”
Ambassador Venizelos congratulated the Federation, its President Emmanuel Mountakis, and all affiliated associations for their outstanding work in promoting Greek culture in Australia and keeping the bonds with Greece strong and alive.
