In a case that has sent shockwaves across Greece, 25-year-old Eirini (Irini) Mourtzoukou has confessed to the killings of three infants — two of whom were her own children — as well as the death of her infant sister more than a decade ago.
Mourtzoukou was arrested on Monday, July 8, in Amaliada, western Greece, following an investigation into multiple suspicious infant deaths. During police questioning, she reportedly admitted to all four fatalities, revealing details that have stunned even experienced investigators.
The most disturbing revelation involves the death of her 18-month-old sister in February 2014. Mourtzoukou, who was just 14 years old at the time, told authorities she was responsible for the child’s death. The incident occurred in Argos and had originally been attributed to interstitial pneumonitis, a type of severe lung inflammation.
The other three cases involve infant deaths between 2021 and 2023. Mourtzoukou confessed to intentionally killing two of the babies, while claiming the death of her second child was accidental, saying the infant suffocated in her sleep.

Authorities believe the murders occurred on the following dates:
February 2021: Death of a friend’s baby
June 19, 2022: Death of Mourtzoukou’s first child
October 17, 2023: Death of her second child
Police sources say forensic evidence and autopsy inconsistencies led investigators to revisit the cases and ultimately arrest Mourtzoukou.
In addition to the murder charges, she is also being investigated for the attempted strangulation of a female friend in 2020, in what authorities are treating as a separate attempted homicide case.
To that the death of another friend’s child, Panagiotakis (little Panagiotis), who was left alone with her is also being questioned.
Mourtzoukou is currently being transferred to Patras, where she is expected to appear before an investigating magistrate. She is likely to request additional time to prepare her official statement.
It is worth mentioning that Mourtzoukou was making appearances in numerous TV shows over the years, talking about her tragic life and pushing the media to investigate the deaths all the while well-known TV presenter Angeliki Nikolouli, who runs an investigative/real crime show was warning the police with evidence of her guilt.
Mourtzoukou’s own mother had stated on air previously she was certain her daughter was behind all deaths.
This harrowing case is now being described as one of the most serious criminal investigations in recent Greek memory, with authorities and the public grappling with the extent of the tragedy.
