University of California, Berkeley professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski is the man gunned down by an unknown perpetrator in Athens on Friday 4 July, found in the vicinity of his ex-wife’s home in Agia Paraskevi.
Authorities allege that the murder of the 43-year-old Polish professor and father of two may have been related to personal disputes with people close to him.
Jeziorski had come to Greece a few days prior and rented an Airbnb apartment in Kolonaki, for a custody hearing with his ex-wife, who is Greek and an economist, Ta Nea reported.
His ex-wife also has custody of their children, but the victim took the children abroad for vacation every summer, which, per reports, did not please the children’s mother.
On the morning of the murder, the 43-year-old and his ex-wife had visited a child psychologist.
At noon, the 43-year-old was expected to visit his ex-wife at her home in Agia Paraskevi to see the children, and in fact, at the time of the murder, the 43-year-old was feet away from his ex-wife’s house.
As soon as she realized who the man who was murdered under her house was, she went to the Attica Police Department to give evidence and even handed over her cell phone to the police, saying that she had nothing to hide.
An online fundraiser has been set up to help pay for funeral costs, legal costs, and to transfer Jeziorski’s body to Poland.
In it, his brother said:
“Przemek was a loving father to two young children and a beloved professor at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.
He was a leading scholar in marketing science, industrial organization and data analytics. He loved teaching and sharing his passion for the intricacies of marketing analytics and marketing science with his students.”
According to Hellenic Police, the incident occurred at 4.15pm on Irini Street in Agia Paraskevi, when an unknown man with his facial features covered approached the victim and opened fire.
The police team rushed to the scene as soon as it was informed about the shootings.
Jeziorski was shot five times in the neck and chest and was found with no identification on him with a mobile phone in English next to him.
The perpetrator has not been identified so far, with authorities examining the video footage in their possession and trying to trace the route he followed.
