Theo Tsiounis has been appointed new head coach of Adelaide United’s A-League Women’s team.

Tsiounis, who has signed on a two-year-deal, has a decade of coaching experience in South Australia’s NPL and State Leagues.

He is currently the head coach of Greek Australian based State League 1 side West Adelaide Soccer Club, where he will continue for the remainder of the 2025 NPL Season.

In his short tenure, he has Hellas sitting one point off second place in the State League One standings.

Regarded as one of the top coaches in South Australian football circles, the 42-year-old has previously been at the helm of Adelaide Comets, Para Hills Knights and as an assistant with Adelaide United Youth reserves.

Speaking to United media after the announcement Tsiounis said: “It’s a huge opportunity – and I’m very thankful for the trust the Club has placed in me.”

“It’s not something I take lightly, and I’m ready to work hard to repay that faith.

“It’s every coach’s dream to work at a professional level. I’ve spent years giving back to the community through football, so to be recognised and offered this role was incredibly humbling.”

In a West Adelaide club statement, President John Tsianos believed it was a significant moment for the club.

“This is a positive for both West Adelaide and obviously Theo for the next step in his coaching career, and proof that it is a great club to come be a part of and further your development,” he said.

“Although it may seem bittersweet for the club, it is an exciting opportunity for Theo and one that we will never stand in the way of for someone looking to better themselves and advance their career.

“While Theo boasts all the necessary attributes to make a significant impression in his new role, I’m equally delighted to confirm that we’ll still be able to lean on Theo’s footballing knowledge and experience as he will stay on as Technical Director.

“We wish Theo all the success with Adelaide United Women.”
