A streamlined legal process for landlords to reclaim rental properties is set to come into force in January 2026.

As reported by Greece’s public broadcaster ERT, the reform introduces a mechanism called the “Order for Return of Leased Property.” Under this new system, certified lawyers will be able to issue the order without the need for a court hearing.

Tenants served with the order will have a six-month window to vacate the premises. However, they may contest the order in cases involving significant personal hardship, such as serious illness.

Legal analysts believe the new measure will ease the burden on the judicial system by reducing the time and costs typically associated with eviction proceedings.
