As part of the Hellenic Theorem program taking place next month, Sydney University’s Department of Modern Greek presents The Demons of Athens Rock Concert.
It will be performed by the Lakedemons, with a recitation by professor and author of The Demons of Athens, Vrasidas Karalis.
The concert, which will be performed in both English and Greek, commences in the ’60s when Western rock music first began to emerge in Greece with bands such as Aphrodite’s Child (666).
The music eventually gets to recent times, expressing the sentiments of youth and their concerns in a society where there are many problems.
The performance will be accompanied by visual material directly from Greece depicting the political and social situation, including the more recent refugee crisis.
This is a ticketed event, $20 for adults and $15 for concession, with tickets available online through www.stickytickets.com.au/30879, or directly from the Greek Bilingual Bookshop (837 New Canterbury Rd, Dulwich Hill, NSW).
The first event of its kind in Sydney, this is an event not to be missed so be sure to pre-purchase your tickets as they may not be available at the door.
This event is not suitable for children under 15 years of age.
