Professor Joseph Lo Bianco, President of the Pharos Alliance, will travel to Greece from 17–26 September 2025 for a series of major education and policy engagements.
His program includes opening the ELLME-25 Conference at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, delivering a policy literacy workshop, and holding a number of high-level meetings in Athens.
A key highlight of the visit will be a seminar at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) on Tuesday 23 September (10:30–13:30 Athens time), hosted by Professor Evdokia Karava. The seminar will feature contributions from leading Greek scholars and Ministry representatives, focusing on the work of Pharos Australia in revitalising and maintaining Modern Greek language in the diaspora.
Australian community members will also have the opportunity to join the seminar online via Zoom (link to be confirmed).
The Pharos Alliance, established in 2021, works to support the teaching and learning of Modern Greek across Australia. Lo Bianco’s visit aims to deepen collaboration between Australia and Greece, particularly in developing strategies to strengthen the language’s future within diaspora communities.
A detailed schedule with further information will be published in the coming days.
