The Victorian government has announced a new round of its Get Active Kids Voucher Program, providing eligible families with subsidies to reduce the cost of their children’s participation in sports activities.

The ninth round of the program commences in October with vouchers worth up to $200 per child families with healthcare or other concession cards.

Applications will be made electronically, while vouchers will be redeemed directly at registered activity providers, such as local sports clubs.

Ros Spence, Victoria’s Minister for Community Sport, stated it is the program’s intention to make sports more affordable and, in the process, allow more youngsters to engage in sports activities.

“We are already seeing the results, with almost 20 per cent of beneficiaries signing up for a sports club for the first time – thousands of children have been able to participate, thanks to this program,” Minister Spence said.

Since the start of 2020, almost 190,000 vouchers have been issued and more than 2,100 activity providers across Victoria have registered.

Ben Pahl from Basketball Victoria noted:

“The program has been pivotal for basketball in Victoria, allowing thousands of participants to play thanks to the support it provides.”

The coming round is the first of two scheduled for the 2025-26 season, with the second to open in February 2026.

The program concerns children up to 18 years of age who are registered on a Commonwealth Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card and on Medicare, while special provision exists for children in foster care, temporary visa holders, immigrants and international students.
