Emmanouil Karalis has once again earned himself a podium finish, this time taking out silver at the World Athletics Championships in Japan.

The Greek pole vaulter cleared six metres (his 12th time doing so this year) on his way to winning his first medal at a world outdoor athletics championship event.

Karalis was surpassed only by Armand Duplantis, who again broke the world record with a jump of 6.30 metres.

“It was a nice day today. I managed to surpass myself, jump over 6m and see some great heights for the first time. Yes, it was very beautiful today and I am happy to leave this race healthy and ready for new records,” said Karalis.

Overall, it is Greece’s 26th medal in the history of the event (eighth silver) and first in the men’s pole vault, following in the footsteps of the corresponding women’s event, where our country has one gold and two bronze, with Katerina Stefanidi and Nicole Kyriakopoulou.

In the men’s event, the best place until this year was Kostas Filippidis’ sixth in 2011.
