Authorities in Greece are on the lookout for a young wolf that attacked and injured a Serbian girl vacationing in the north of the country, a wildlife group spokesman said Tuesday.

The incident occurred early Friday at a coastal resort in Neos Marmaras in the Halkidiki peninsula in northern Greece, the spokesman for wildlife group Callisto, Iason Bantios, told state TV ERT.

“It appears to be a young wolf who has developed a problematic…familiarity with humans. This does not generally happen with wolves,” Bantios told the station.

State agency ANA said the five-year-old girl was bitten and scratched on the back before the wolf was scared off by her mother.

The girl was not seriously hurt, ANA said.

Bantios said the wildlife group had set up cameras in the area around the resort and was in contact with authorities on what to do with the particular animal.

“We advise people in Neos Marmaras to avoid walking around with dogs or children after dark and early in the morning,” Bantios said.

According to Callisto, the Halkidiki area is home to both wolf and jackal populations.
