Former teacher Vasileios “Bill” Kafataris has been found guilty by a jury of grooming a minor for sexual exploitation, following a retrial at the Parramatta District Court in Sydney.

After four days of deliberations, the 12-member jury delivered its verdict on Wednesday, which the 57-year-old heard without expression.

According to the indictment, the offences took place between January and April 2014, when the victim was just 15 years old. Kafataris was arrested in 2021 after a raid by the Police Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad at his Bankstown apartment.

During the hearing, the court was told that the accused sent nude photos of himself to the student, gave her money, cigarettes and gifts, and later sent her explicit sexual messages.

He had already pleaded guilty last year to two separate incidents of sexually harassing a 17-year-old girl in 2021.

Sentencing for the latest charges is scheduled for 26 September. Until then, he remains free on bail.
