Archbishop Makarios welcomed the acclaimed performer during his Australian tour, where they spoke warmly about the diaspora and the mission of the Orthodox Church.

The Archdiocese of Australia received a special visitor on Monday, 22 September, as popular Greek singer Yiannis Ploutarchos paid his respects to Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

Ploutarchos, who is currently in the country for a series of concerts in major cities, was accompanied by Greek-Australian businessman Konstantinos Tagalakis and cultural events organiser Nikolaos Theodorakopoulos.

During his stay in Sydney, the celebrated performer took the opportunity to visit the Archdiocese headquarters, offering his respects to Archbishop Makarios and receiving his blessing.

The Archbishop welcomed him warmly, and their discussion unfolded in a friendly atmosphere, touching on the life of the Greek diaspora in Australia as well as the mission and work of the Orthodox Church across the fifth continent.

The meeting concluded with the exchange of well wishes. Archbishop Makarios presented his visitors with commemorative coins from the special centenary series marking the 100 years of the Archdiocese of Australia.

Ploutarchos’s visit added a cultural highlight to his Australian tour, underscoring the close ties between Greece’s artistic community and the Greek diaspora abroad.
