Heidelberg United coach John Anastasiadis has expressed all the belief in his players to complete the impossible dream and take out the Australia Cup in what he called the “biggest game of his career”.

Anastasiadis spoke to Neos Kosmos while in Sydney for the launch of the Australian Championship on Tuesday (23 September), which will commence a week after they battle against Newcastle Jets in the Australia Cup Final on 4 October at Lakeside Stadium.

The Greek Australian coach noted that the Final stands to be his biggest one yet as a coach.

“You’re playing against A-League clubs in the top echelon of the country. Along the journey we have beaten three A-League clubs and to come to this now, it is no doubt my biggest game of my career,” he said.

Anastasiadis expressed that it is an occasion he wants his players to cherish.

“I want the players to feel this, to understand how big this is for them. Without them, we can’t do anything as coaches. The players have been unbelievable. We started preparation on Monday. I think they can’t wait till the game next week,” he said.

The “Alexandros” coach stressed that they must approach the game like any other.

“The message is we treat this as any other game in terms of the way we want to play,” he said.

“It will be a massive game in terms of our crowd being there, our people coming back to the game. Above all, the message will be to make their families proud of what they’ve done and what they’ve achieved, and to really embrace the opportunity because they don’t always come.”

Bul Juach, one of Heidelberg’s star players this season, admitted the gravity of their remarkable run to the Final has probably not quite settled with the players just yet.

“It has really been a reward of the hard work that we’ve done,” the star forward told Neos Kosmos.

“We started our pre-season in November. We were training like six days a week so, for us, it has just been a massive reward for our hard work throughout the year.”

Juach praised the club’s management and staff as one of the driving forces behind their successful year.

“For us, the main key has just been the people around the club and the coaching as well. Obviously we have quality in the team. That’s what has been a massive difference to our success this year,” he said.

“Everyone at the club has been supportive and welcoming. That has been everything for us.”

Regarding the Final, Juach noted they are in a unique position as they have already proven on multiple occasions they are capable of pulling off the big upsets.

“We have won against three A-League teams so I can’t see why we can’t win it. It is a Final; anything can happen,” he said.

“I believe we can do it and all the boys, we have just got to play our game.”
