The Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) is naturally supporting Team Greece in this year’s All Nations Cup, which kicks off on Saturday, 11 October 2025, at Knox City FC.
Team Greece has found itself in a tough draw in the round-robin stage, grouped with North Macedonia, Burundi, and Serbia. But there’s no shortage of determination.
Greek Community board member Michael Karamitos said the tournament is about more than football.
“The All Nations Cup is a way of networking with our youth,” he said.
“Youth are the future of our community, and we are proud to showcase them through the sporting activities we support,” Karamitos said.
Again this year the team will be led by coaches George Katsakis and Kon Tangalakis. Katsakis described the honour of coaching the squad as deeply personal.
“This tournament is very close to my heart,” he said. “It’s a true honour to coach young players of Greek descent who play for the jumper.”
Katsakis said the players’ “passion and commitment” over the past four years had been “inspiring,” then he urged the community to get behind them.
“I encourage as many people as possible to come and support our team throughout the tournament.”
GCM president Bill Papastergiadis echoed that message.
“The Community is thrilled to once again support Team Greece,” he said. “We’ve gathered together an elite squad to represent us and we thank both our coaches for their leadership.”
He said the tournament was also about engaging with young people.
“Our youth are our future. We look forward to six weeks of football and to hopefully repeating the success of three years ago, when Team Greece won the tournament.”
The All Nations Cup will run over six weeks and bring together multicultural teams from across Melbourne.
The Greek Community is calling on families, friends, and supporters to pack the stands and cheer on Team Greece.
