With two matches in Faliro and Thessaloniki, the curtain rose on Saturday for the 5th round of the Super League 1.

Olympiacos, with Tiquinho the hero, defeated Levadiakos 3-2 in stoppage time, while at the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium, Aris drew 1-1 with Panserraikos, suffering their first dropped points under Jiménez.

A difficult win for Olympiacos against the strong side of Nikos Papadopoulos

Olympiacos took the lead in the 43rd minute with a header from Retsos and went into the dressing room 1-0 up. In the 58th minute, Palacios found the net for 1-1, but just two minutes later (60’) Tiquinho made it 2-1.

Levadiakos kept pressing for the equaliser and managed it in the 79th minute. Goumas, who had come on as a substitute, scored a fine goal to make it 2-2.

At that point VAR stopped working, and it took 16 minutes before the match restarted. In the 90+6th minute Olympiacos struck again through Tiquinho to snatch the three points ahead of Wednesday’s big match against Arsenal in London.

Aris – Panserraikos 1-1

Most expected an easy three points for Aris, but Panserraikos, who travelled to Vikelidis as the bottom of the table team with just 1 point, grabbed a valuable draw.

Aris were the better side throughout and went ahead in the 44th minute through Monchu. But in the 50th minute Ivan equalised to 1-1, and despite chances, Aris could not find the winner.

This was the first dropped points of the Jiménez era, with the Spanish coach and Aris officials expressing complaints about the refereeing.

Manolo Jiménez’s team, who had only registered wins with him on the bench, took the lead at the end of the first half through Monchu Rodríguez (44’). However, right at the start of the second half, the “Lions of Serres” equalised through Andrei Ivan (50’). A missed opportunity for Aris to move, even temporarily, into second place, but an important point for Panserraikos, who have had a poor start to the season.
