The 30th Greek Film Festival will present a special Q&A event with acclaimed Greek filmmaker and actor Renos Haralambidis.
Haralambidis will visit Sydney as a special guest of the Festival, with a highlight being an exclusive conversation between the celebrated filmmaker and Professor Vrasidas Karalis at the Grand Roxy in Brighton-Le-Sands on Monday, October 27.
The Q&A titled, Intimate Conversation, will be guided by Professor Karalis, a leading scholar of Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies at the University of Sydney. The discussion promises to offer audiences a rare insight into the creative mind of one of Greece’s most visionary filmmakers.
Born in Athens in 1969, Renos Haralambidis burst onto the scene with his debut No Budget Story, now a cult classic, and followed up with critically acclaimed works such as The Heart of the Beast and Four Black Suits, which blend sharp humour with social critique. Haralambidis is also highly respected as an actor.
Harry Danalis, the president of the Greek community of NSW, was delighted to have Haralambidis in the festival, and said the filmmaker was “a gift to the Greek community and the wider public.” He said Haralambidis’s presence reinforced “the deep, enduring cultural ties between Greece and Australia.”
Nia Karteris, the chair of the film festival described the event as “a cultural milestone”.
“Haralambidis’s conversation with a brilliant academic like Professor Karalis is a cornerstone event for our cultural calendar and demonstrates the enduring power of Greek storytelling and its connection to our audiences here in Sydney,” Karteris said.
For cinephiles and the Greek Australian community, the evening promises to be both intimate and insightful . It is an opportunity to hear from a filmmaker whose work has left an indelible mark on European cinema.
