Greek Australian siblings Madison Eve and Alexandra have scored major successes with their artworks celebrating family as the two sisters each earned awards in the inaugural National Families Week Art Competition.
Madison (14 years old) and Alexandra (11 years old) were both announced as winners in the competition run by the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare, which encouraged youngsters to demonstrate the importance of family through art.
“The love and support of family is one of life’s greatest gifts and I am incredibly grateful to share that every day with my own family,” Madison said in a press release.

The student journalist and cartoonist expressed her work was inspired by her Hellenic heritage.
“Greek heritage is rich in art, history and tradition and I enjoy bringing these elements to life through my art,” said the youngster with family roots to Crete.
“Whether it’s dying eggs for Greek Easter, celebrating sacred name days or enjoying big family gatherings, nothing beats getting together with the people you love and making the most of every moment you have together.”
Madison was one of the winners in the 13-17 years category with her work titled ‘A Celebration of Family’ while Alexandra likewise earned a nod as one of the winners in the 8-12 years category for her piece ‘Movie Night’.

Their ten-year-old brother George was also highly commended for his entry into the competition titled ‘My γιαγιά’.
De Tsorbaris, CEO of the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare, highlighted her delight with the creations entered by the students in the competition’s inaugural edition.
“The artworks and words of these children and young people remind us that family, in all its forms, remains a powerful source of inspiration, strength, and joy,” Tsorbaris said.
The artworks will be showcased in an exhibition at Queen’s Hall in Victorian Parliament from 17-21 November.
