Greek tradition and hospitality will take centre stage next month in Fairfield, with the launch of the Philhellenika Festival Fairfield, a new initiative that aims to become an annual celebration for the area’s Greek community.

The festival will take place on Sunday 16 November in the Station Street car park in central Fairfield, transforming the street into a lively celebration of Greek culture, food, and music.

The idea comes from Greek-Australian entrepreneur John Ghionis, owner of the well-known taverna Spitaki, who says that “the heart of Fairfield has been beating Greek for years.”

“Thousands of Greeks live in the wider area, and I thought it was time to create a festival that showcases our music, our dances, and our food,”

Ghionis told Neos Kosmos.

Supported by the Fairfield Traders Association, the Philhellenika Festival hopes to bring together both the Greek and broader Australian communities through a rich program of performances, live music, traditional dance, and Greek cuisine.

More details about the program and featured artists will be announced at a special launch event on Wednesday evening, expected to be attended by politicians, local government representatives, community leaders, and friends of Greece.

“Our goal is to create a celebration that brings together people of all ages and backgrounds, a true festival of Greek spirit in Fairfield,” Ghionis emphasised.
