The Food for Thought Network (FFTN) is entering its 15th year of community contribution, and has drawn the year to a close with its annual general meeting.
Held on November 25, the not-for-profit women’s organisation took the opportunity to put forward its future plans, while discussing the achievements of what has been “a milestone year”, according to the network’s founder Varavara Ioannou.

Among the highlights mentioned were Eva Dafaranos, wife of the Greek ambassador, being named the Network’s inaugural patron, along with the launch of the 9 Muses Café – a series of events giving women a chance to voice issues and concerns in a supportive and safe environment.

It was also noted that the organisation’s membership and engagement has increased, with five sold-out events attracting notable speakers including the likes of Victorian Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos, Professor Joy Damousi, Dr Angelo Rodafinos and author Maria Katsonis.

Ms Ioannou restated her commitment to drive the organisation towards making a difference in the community, and says the FFTN is just as important today as it was when it was founded.

“The multicultural crowd of attendees is living proof that the organisation, which was founded 14 years ago aiming to fill an identified gap of doing leadership differently in the Greek community, appeals today to a much wider audience that cherishes its alternative voice,” she said.

The network will endeavour to see growth through new partnerships and alliances within the Greek and wider Australian communities, with new members also playing a key role with the contribution of fresh innovative ideas, skills and enthusiasm.

Run by a small, dedicated committee of volunteers, the FFTN has a particular focus on education and development. Over the years it has sought to raise much-needed awareness about issues related to women’s development, and provides a platform for women of all professions and backgrounds to network.
