Following in the steps of Orlando Bloom and Mandy Patinkin, Susan Sarandon is the next celebrity to respond to the refugee crisis.

Last week the actress ventured from New York to Lesvos, one of the main entry points into Europe, where she had the chance to witness the situation first-hand.

According to those on the island, the 69-year-old was a big help with the migrant children, helping to change their soaked clothing, socks and shoes.

Though Sarandon didn’t officially announce that she would be taking part in volunteer work while on the island, social media suggested otherwise.

Aside from tweeting a photo of a plane’s propeller with the caption ‘On my way to Lesbos’, an image surfaced on Facebook, in which Sarandon is pictured with Apostolis Paraskevopoulos, a famed volunteer based in the island village of Skala Sikamnias.

There Paraskevopoulos has concentrated his efforts, coordinating a significant volunteer effort due to assist the thousands of refugees that have been passing through the village throughout the year.

This is not the actress’ first experience volunteering abroad; she is well-known for her efforts both in her home city of New York and abroad, having visited Nepal to assist with the aftermath of the deadly earthquake earlier this year.
