The funeral of the former Greek Prime Minister Tzanis Tzanetakis took place last week in Kefalari in Athens.
The New Democracy stalwart, who served as Prime Minister in for three months in 1989, was subsequently buried at the public cemetery in Kifissia.
New Democracy leader, Antonis Samaras, gave the oration at the funeral.
Samaras said that Tzanetakis was a political symbol of New Democracy, for Greece and for democracy in Greece. He went on to say that Tzanetakis was a patrician figure in Greek politics who bridged the chasm between the Left and Right and earned the respect of the political world.
Many current and former politicians were present at his funeral, including the former Prime Minister Costas Mitsotakis and Costas Karamanlis, the representative of New Democracy Panos Panagiotopoulos, Dora Bakoyiannis, current Ministers Giorgos Papaconstantinou and Yiannis Ragousis, Andreas Papandreou, Fotis Kouvelas and many figures from the world of commerce and business.
Former prime minister Tzannis Tzanetakis passed away at the age of 82, at a hospital in Athens.
