Judge Andrea Tsalamandris was officially welcomed as a judge for the County Court of Victoria in a ceremony last Thursday.
The inauguration was well-attended by her colleagues, friends and relatives, including her husband George and children Kurt and Samuel.
Boasting 21 years of legal experience, Ms Tsalamandris has played a significant role in assisting members of the Stolen Generations in Federal Court proceedings issued against the Commonwealth government for the forced removal of Aboriginal children from their homes in the Northern Territory.
Over the years she has also supported working parents as an advocate for flexible work practices in law firms.
The newly-appointed judge was also the parenting partner at Holding Redlich’s Melbourne office, and the firm’s national diversity partner. She has helped numerous clients with work injury accidents, medical negligence claims and asbestos litigation.
Law Institute of Victoria’s president Steven Sapountsis welcomed the appointment of Ms Tsalamandris as a judge of the Victorian County Court.
He praised the solicitor for her impressive credentials, and said she has a strong portfolio of pro-bono work that exemplifies her positive work and generous community spirit.
Ms Tsalamandris holds both a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Arts from Monash University.
