Santorini Arts Factory is set to host the Orange Water Festival in a celebration of contemporary art by Greek, Dutch and other international artists.
The works to be exhibited have been selected on the basis of unifying public cultural places of significance and archaeological monuments from around both Greece and the Netherlands.
The leading contemporary cultural event of the summer, 65 artists will be participating, showcasing more than 400 works ranging from painting and sculpture to video art and installation in 13 public exhibition spaces across Athens, Crete, Santorini, Paros, Korinthos and Patra.
Presented in two cycles, Orange Water 1, opening on June 4, will include a retrospective group exhibition entitled Memory Landscape, followed by two solo exhibitions Action and Gesture by artist Apostolis Zolotakis, and High Frequency Vibration by sculptor Kelly.
Orange Water 2 will follow on August 6 and has been titled Fata Morgana, after the sister of King Arthur.
According to mythology, she had the magical ability to intimidate the enemy’s army by creating unreal images of castles hanging over the coastline; a form of optical illusion which is all too relevant to contemporary artists and their medium of expression.
Jointly run under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture, Greek Ministry of Tourism and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Athens, the event will be a chance to strengthen inter-cultural relations between the two nations.
Orange Water will officially open on June 4 at Vlychada, Santorini, Greece at 8.00 pm and attendance is free. The festival will run from June 4 until September 30.
