Greek-Australian man Harry Barkas, 48, has been sentenced to 13 and a half years in prison.

Also known as the hot chocolate rapist, he was convicted of drugging and raping three women, over 14 years.

He was dubbed the hot chocolate rapist because he would give his victims a hot drink laced with drugs be-fore attacking them.

The drugs would render the women unconscious.

The Victorian County Court heard that Barkas met his first victim at a night club. She came to fear him so much that she initially refused to lay charges.

Barkas’ second target was a friend, and the third woman he met at a café.

The court was told that the rapes had had a significant impact on the victims, who now found it difficult to trust men and would often recall the horrors they had endured.

The court also heard that Barkas had been friends with convicted serial rapist John Xydias and there were similarities in the ways they perpetrated their crimes.

The court heard Barkas remains in denial and has shown few if any signs of remorse.

He will be eligible for parole in nine years.
